🚗 Broken Down? Stay Safe While You Wait
If your vehicle has broken down, follow these steps to stay safe until help arrives.
1. Pull Over Safely
Get your vehicle as far off the road as possible—onto a hard shoulder, lay-by, wide verge, or farm entrance.
2. Turn On Hazard Lights
Switch on your hazards immediately to warn other drivers.
3. Stay Inside If It’s Unsafe
If traffic is fast or close, stay buckled up inside your vehicle until it's safe to move.
4. Exit Carefully (If Safe)
Use the passenger-side door. Move away from traffic—stand behind a barrier, hedge, or fence if there is one.
5. Use a Warning Triangle (Only if Safe)
Place it 50 metres behind your vehicle on quieter roads only. Avoid using it on motorways, bends, or hills.
6. Keep Passengers & Pets Safe
Keep everyone calm and out of the road. Keep pets inside unless there’s danger.
7. Don’t Attempt Repairs
Leave it to us—your safety is more important than trying to fix something on the spot.
8. Stay Visible & Warm
Wear high-vis if you have it, and stay warm with blankets or extra clothes.
